Terms of Use

Version of 31 August 2026. This English text is a translation for convenience; in case of a discrepancy the Russian version prevails.

In short

  • The site provides reading and listening to the Quran free of charge, without sign-up or ads.
  • The Arabic text is published without translation or transliteration and passes an automatic integrity check.
  • The rights to third-party data, fonts and audio remain with their rights holders.
  • You may read, listen, share links and copy individual ayahs without distorting the text.
  • A suspected error should be reported before any self-made change or distribution of a corrected version.

1. General

1.1. These Terms of Use (the "Terms") set the rules for using the website and installable web application read-quran.org (the "Site"). The Site is available without an account.

1.2. The Site is an independent non-commercial project; it is not an official product of the Quran Foundation, Quran.com, QuranReflect, Tanzil, EveryAyah or the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex. Naming a source and linking to it does not mean approval or endorsement of the Site.

1.3. By using the Site the user agrees to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If the Terms are not acceptable, the use of the Site should be stopped.

2. Sources, rights and licences

Quran data provided by Quran Foundation.

2.1. The Arabic text, metadata and page layout are obtained through the resources of the Quran Foundation and Quran.com; their use is governed by the current Quran Foundation terms.

2.2. The page fonts QCF v2 and the Uthmanic Hafs font are delivered through the Quran Foundation infrastructure; the supplier named in its documentation is the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex (Medina, Saudi Arabia). The font files are not modified.

2.3. Tanzil Quran Text, © 2007–2021 Tanzil Project, licence CC BY 3.0, is used only for an independent character-by-character verification; the displayed set is not presented as the Tanzil text.

2.4. The audio recordings are not hosted on the Site and are requested by the browser directly from EveryAyah.com with the selected reciter and ayah; the rights to the recordings belong to their respective holders.

2.5. The Site claims no exclusive rights to the text of the Quran. The rights to the source data, fonts, recordings, trademarks and other third-party materials remain with their holders; the presence of a file or a link to it does not give the user the right to distribute third-party material separately.

2.6. Quran Foundation materials are not sold and are not provided as a separate dataset or API. If the terms of a source, a permission of a rights holder or the synchronisation procedure require a change, the local storage, access or way of publishing the respective material is brought into line or discontinued.

2.7. The program code, design and materials created by the project are protected by the applicable law unless stated otherwise. These Terms cannot grant rights to materials that the administrator of the Site does not own.

3. Accuracy of the text and error reports

3.1. Before publication 114 surahs, 6236 ayahs and the layout of all 604 pages are checked automatically. The Quranic text is neither edited by hand nor normalised programmatically. The description of the sources and the control fingerprints are published on the "About the project and sources" page.

3.2. Technical checks reduce the risk of an error but do not replace verification against an authoritative printed mushaf and by a qualified specialist.

3.3. A report of a suspected error is reviewed before any change. It can be sent to contact@read-quran.org with the surah, ayah, page, device and a screenshot.

4. Permitted use

4.1. It is permitted to use the ordinary functions of the Site for lawful reading, listening and study of the Quran, to keep local bookmarks, to quote individual ayahs accurately and to share links preserving the ayah number and context. These Terms do not attempt to restrict the rights to the Quranic text itself granted by law or by the applicable terms of the source.

4.2. It is prohibited to:

  • distort the Quranic text or attribute a knowingly incorrect version to the Site;
  • circumvent security measures, interfere with the operation of the Site, distribute malicious code or create excessive automated load;
  • use the Site for unlawful actions or for violating the rights of others;
  • extract and distribute Quran Foundation materials, fonts or audio recordings as a separate dataset, API, copy of the service or commercial product without the permission of the respective rights holder.

4.3. If bulk extraction, building your own application, distribution of fonts or audio, or commercial use of third-party materials is required, the terms of the specific source must be checked independently and, where necessary, permission obtained directly from the rights holder.

5. Audio and external services

5.1. The audio is streamed directly from EveryAyah.com and is not included in the offline cache of the Site. Availability, quality, the set of reciters and the rights to the recordings depend on the external service and the rights holders; the Site does not grant a separate licence to the audio recordings.

5.2. Following external links is subject to the rules of the respective sites.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

6.1. The administrator strives to maintain the availability and integrity of the publication, but the Site, the offline mode and the external audio may temporarily fail because of maintenance, browser errors, the network or third-party services. The Site is provided "as is", without a promise of uninterrupted and error-free operation, to the extent permitted by the applicable law.

6.2. The user is responsible for their own device, internet connection and compliance with local law.

7. Liability

7.1. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law. In other cases the administrator is not liable for indirect losses, unavailability of the external audio, actions of third-party sites and the consequences of using the Site contrary to the Terms.

7.2. If a discrepancy in the text of the Quran is found, priority is given to stopping the distribution of the disputed material, verification against the sources and correction after confirmation.

8. Changes to the Terms

8.1. The functions of the Site and the Terms may be updated as long as this does not reduce the integrity control of the Quran. Material changes are published on this page with a new version date and do not apply retroactively unless the law requires otherwise.

9. Governing law and disputes

9.1. These Terms are governed by the law of the Russian Federation unless mandatory rules of the law of the user's country provide otherwise.

9.2. Before going to court the parties try to settle the matter directly through the administrator of the Site.

9.3. If a provision of the Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in force; the invalid provision is replaced by an admissible rule closest to its meaning.
